On the 26th of February 2016 in Niksic, it was organized “Youth taking over day”, theme of this day was position of youth in Niksic - local policies and practices.
The youngsters from Niksic, about twenty of them, had the opportunity to ask questions to the president of Municipal Assembly of Niksic Ms. Sonja Nikcevic, councillors of the Municipal Assembly, Ms. Andrijana Jovovic Bulajic, Mr. Veselin Gardasevic, Mr. Radovan Perovic and Mr Luka Mitrovic, as well as to the Secretary of the Secretariat for Culture, Sport, Youth and Social welfare Mr. Milan Korac.
This group of young people have launched the issues concerning local youth projects, as well as the legal regulation of the field of youth. Also it was emphasized the need for the creation of a special secretariat that would be solely and directly responsible for young people and issues that concern them. Also very significant is the problem of drug addiction, and availability of psychoactive substances, so there is a need for more protection mechanisms and prevention. Especially it was pointed out that there are still a large number of barriers that encounter people with disabilities. Young people are also asked questions related to cultural and sports facilities. They consider that it is necessary to increase the availability of cultural content and there should be greater scope of benefits for young people, especially when it comes to tickets for cultural events. Attention should be paid to sports that are less common and developed in Niksic, such as rock-climbing and biking.
This occasion was used to present once more youth map of Niksic, created through the activity “My city –Youth city”, to the representatives of local authorities.
This event was organized by the Local Democracy Agency Montenegro in cooperation with the Secretariat for Culture, Sport, Youth and Social Welfare Niksic (Youth Office) and the Council for Cooperation between local government and non-governmental organizations.
This activity is one of the activities within the project Balkan regional platform for youth participation and dialogue, supported by EU, through Civil Society Facility Operating Grants to IPA CSO Associations.
