The second meeting of the Local Youth Advisory Group and Local Democracy Agency representatives in Mostar was organized on Thursday, 5th May 2016.
Meeting attendees were : the president of Youth Council in Mostar, Ivo Čarapina, representative of American Corner in Mostar, Inga Kotlo, representative of Croatian National Theatre, and Vrisak association, Gloria Lujanović, United World College representative Selma Žuljević, Youth Correspondent Jasmina Pošković, Youth president of the political party SDA Haris Šabanović, Youth president of the political party DF Orhan Đulančić, representative of Youth forum of the political party SDP Dino Pehlić and representatives of LDA Mostar, Dženana Dedić, Maja Vejzović and Vlatka Lučić.
As a follow up from our last meeting, we continued our discussion about the status of youth and youth in volunteerism in our city, canton, and entity. We talked about the Law on Volunteering in Federation of BiH, and other official documents, entities and ministries that deal with youth issues and volunteerism at all levels of government in Federation of BiH. As Youth Commission does not exist in our canton, we concluded that such a commission must be formed and that we will react through several channels to assist in forming such a commission. One of the key issues in our canton is the nonexistence of Youth Council, so we came to a conclusion that a team of local advisors will assist Youth Council of the City of Mostar to engage youth in other municipalities and cities to form at least five local youth councils which would constitute Herzegovina-Neretva Canton’s Youth Council. As one of the goals of the local advisory group is to react about the status of volunteers, we discussed criteria for obtaining city scholarships and internships in our canton. We recognized the problem that when candidates are being scored, their results and experiences in volunteerism/activism/non-formal education do not receive any score or credit.
Local Advisory Group was divided into several teams which will deal with different issues regarding the problems we discussed. We will share all new information and activities in our facebook group, which was created for this purpose. Next team meetings will be organized as required and it will depend on the results and information that the respective teams collected.
