BNLD Members

The Members of BNLD are the European association for local democracy (ALDA) and the Local Democracy Agencies (LDAs) from Western Balkans. Each of the members hosts a BNLD office with head office hosted in ALDA Skopje.

The European Association for Local Democracy Agencies (ALDA) 

ALDA was established in 1999 at the initiative of the Council of Europe's Congress of Local and Regional Authorities to coordinate and support a network of Local Democracy Agencies which was established in the early 1990s. It remains one of its supporting programmes. It is the umbrella organisation of the Local Democracy Agencies which are self-sustainable, locally registered NGOs that act as promoters of good governance and local self-government, being a membership based organisation gathering more than 300 members (including Local Authorities, Associations of Local Authorities and non-governmental organisations) coming from more than 40 countries. In the framework of promoting good governance and citizen participation at the local level ALDA focuses on various themes, such as European integration, decentralisation, civic initiatives and volunteering, human rights and sustainable economic development.



 

 


ALDA SKOPJE
The Association of Local Democracy Agencies (ALDA) Skopje is a branch of a European non-governmental organization dedicated to the promotion of good governance and citizen participation at the local level. ALDA Skopje’s core work is the coordination of two big projects for networking and regional/international cooperation: the Decentralized cooperation between the French Region Lower Normandy and Macedonia, a 10 years’ long, well developed cooperation on the topics of good governance and local development; and “Balkan regional platform for youth participation and dialogue”, a platform on youth participation that involves 5 Balkan countries and encourages regional cooperation.

LDA CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN SERBIA
LDA Central and Southern Serbia was established in 2001 in the City of Niš, Serbia. In 2003 it was officially registered under the name Centar lokalne demokratije LDA under Serbian law than moved its headquarters to Knjaževac. The LDA covers wider region by working in Niš, Knjaževac, Kraljevo and Kragujevac. LDA CSS aims to contribute to development of local democracy in the communities of Eastern, Southern and Central Serbia thru capacity building programs based on the principles of active citizenship and establishment of concrete mechanisms of citizens’ participation in development of their communities.

LDA KOSOVO
LDA Kosovo was officially opened on October 21, 2011 in Peja/Pec, Kosovo with key priorities, promotion of the Local Democracy Agency of Kosovo, promotion of the local democracy and European integration, promotion of culture, youth and equal opportunities, promotion of dialogue among communities, promotion of local economic development, support logistics for the LDA's partners.

LDA MOSTAR
LDA Mostar, established in 2004 with key priorities in creating active citizenship by involving citizens in decision-making processes, building the capacities of local authorities for better local self government, supporting youth activism and the position of women, strengthening partnership networks (national and international) to develop strong national and regional cooperation programmes.

LDA NIKSIC
The LDA Niksic, established in 2001 with key priorities in local administration capacity development, human rights and peace building, youth participation, local economical development, European Union integration processes.


LDA PRIJEDOR
The LDA Prijedor, established in the year 2000, is based in the Serbian entity of Bosnia and Herzergovina, Republika Srpska. The region has been the centre of a strong nationalism during the war from 1992 to 1996. Nowadays, Prijedor is among the cities in Bosnia with a high number of returnees and refugees of different ethnic groups.

LDA SUBOTICA
The LDA Subotica was opened in 1993. It was the first LDA that was established. The work with local authorities and trainings for other civil society groups are among the main activities of the Agency.


LDA ZAVIDOVICI
The LDA Zavidovici was established in April 1997, following many years of cooperation between Italian NGOs and local authorities with the host city of Zavidovici. It is located in the Zenica-Doboj Kanton, BiH Federation, Bosnia Herzegovina. Zavidovici and the surrounding area were severely affected by the war.
